Why Today Rocks, Post the Third

Well, I have been remiss in my posting. Very sorry about that. Life's been a bit crazy. You see, my mother had a birthday; it stormed like crazy (with tornado warnings and falling trees); and my manager is on vacation for the week, which means I get to do the job of two people. So I'm going to give you a recap of why these past few days rocked. In bullet form, no less.

  • Why Saturday rocked: I work in child care. Lots of kids, most of them insanely crazy. Lots of parents, all of them insanely crazy. We've got a set of triplets who are two years old. Holy hell. TWO-YEAR-OLD TRIPLETS. Those poor parents. The kids are cute though. And they were screaming bloody murder when they came in. Seriously. I thought someone had been shot. So I walked over to them and said hello, and they stopped crying and walked right on in. Because they love me...well, either that or I told them they could have all the dinosaurs just to themselves. They like dinosaurs. And we have about 50 of them, so there's plenty to go around.
  • Why Sunday rocked: We had a huge storm. Our television was yelling at us because we probably should have been in the basement. Somehow, despite tree branches all over the road and a huge tree that had fallen across the road, we didn't lose power. Three blocks up the street however, and there was zero power. The fallen tree missed my sister's car by about a foot. It also managed to miss every single car on the street. Not sure how that happened, but it did. We were lucky. Also, Sunday was my mother's birthday. Huge party, which was luckily scheduled after the storm passed. Our street was closed because of the fallen tree, but people just drove around the road closed sign. I guess we were lucky that there weren't any cops around.
  • Why Monday rocked: As I said, my manager's out of the office for the week. So I had to do all the work at the newspaper (yes, I have two jobs. Saturdays at the YMCA and Monday through Friday at a newspaper). I managed to get it all done in about the same time it takes both of us to do it. Go me.
  • And finally, why today (Tuesday) rocked: We put the paper to print on Tuesdays, which generally means very, very long days. In at 9:00am and out at 9:00pm. That's if we're lucky. So Tuesdays we have to gather all the ads for the paper, actually put the paper together, make editorial corrections, convert the pages of the paper to PDFs, and send them to the printer. It's insane. So my manager usually does the gathering of the ads while I create new ones and make changes to old ones. She also does the classified pages while I make the editorial corrections to the other pages and drop the ads onto them. So, I had to do all of this. And guess what? I finished at 5:00. HOLY SHIT. I rock. And now my boss is finally realizing I know how to do my job better than my manager. ;p

Why Today Rocks, Post the Second

I have anxiety. Typically, I'm pretty good at managing it and talking myself down from EXTREME WORRY ABOUT THE IMPENDING APOCALYPSE to Minor Nuisance. It's not always easy, nor is it always successful, but I'm getting the hang of it. Anyways, remember my lack of funds? Well, I figured out why I have a lack of funds (the job that pays barely more than minimum wage is part of it, yes, but not all of it). Apparently, in my infinite wisdom and desire to become a successful, responsible adult, I paid my car payment twice this month. Yes, twice. $213.69 x 2 = more money than I had in my account. Well, that's not exactly true. I had 58 cents in there after that, but of course, I thought I had that 58 cents AND the other $213.69. So I overdrew my account and was slammed with overdraft charges. Needless to say, my anxiety was bordering on Apocalyptic Level Two. There are four levels, so the anxiety was pretty high.

So why did today rock? I called the bank's branch in my town and they couldn't do anything, so they told me to call the main number. I did. The woman I spoke to was very nice and we had a good laugh at my stupidity that caused me to be overly responsible. Then she refunded me FIVE of the eight overdraft charges! I have a positive balance in my checking account now!!!

Why Today Rocks, Post the First

Hi. I'm Jen. I'm starting this blog because I suffer from a severe case of Lack of Life. The point of this here blog is to, hopefully, post once a day and describe one thing that made today rock.

Today, while I was lamenting on my lack of funds (my bank account is currently sitting at -$105.72, but I get paid tomorrow. Hopefully the overdraft charges won't kill me), I went digging through my purse to see if I could afford to buy a soda from the break room at work. Huzzah! I found $1.32. Cokes cost $1.25. So I happily skipped out of my cubicle and into the break room. I put my nickels and dimes into the vending machine when, to my complete and utter shock, TWO BOTTLES OF COKE came out.
This is what I looked like:
I frolicked around the break room for at least one full minute while chanting, "Free Coke! Free Coke! I just got a FREE COKE!" I'm pretty sure my coworkers are convinced I'm insane. They're probably right.
